The morning after Thanksgiving can be many things. It can be a day of low energy because you were busy:
Busy, busy – running around getting all the food prepared, cleaning the kitchen, getting dressed, prepping the house or driving to the celebration.
Eating too much food- If you can say “I didn’t eat too much”, I applaud you. I am not clapping for myself. I ate way too much delicious food. But oh my goodness, it was delicious. Smoked turkey, pork tenderloin smothered in gravy, mac and cheese-one with bacon and one without, dressing, a huge salad with all the sides, (Yes ranch dressing included!), corn casserole, collard greens, sweet potato casserole, rolls, deviled eggs, homemade cranberry sauce, canned cranberry sauce, appetizers- homemade cheese ball with pineapple and roasted pecans, deviled eggs , hot chicken dip (This is a hit from my daughter Mandy!) and a fruit tray, Desserts- Apple pie, pecan pie, pumpkin pie, chocolate dessert, a pineapple pudding (like a banana pudding but pineapple instead of bananas), bread pudding, two chocolate pecan pies, a Birthday Cake- My grandson Hunter’s birthday actually was on Thanksgiving day this year. Oh my goodness! He is such a talented, loving, gentle man! We are so blessed!

Enjoying family and friends = lots of love and laughter- we had 28 folks with us to be grateful for. Several had Covid, some out of town but all in our hearts.
Cleaned up after the meal (everyone in our family helps. You know the saying, “Many hands make lite work” is true.)
I started writing this blog to talk about the morning after but the food distracted me. I will be right back!
Okay full belly again. Today is Black Friday, I think it is called that because this is the beginning of the season that makes the store’s (Net Profit) moves out of the red (loss) into the black (profit). That is a good thing for lots of folks.

There are mobs of people out shopping today. They started early. I am not one of the Black Friday shoppers. One time I gave it the old college try…
I was visiting my Mom in Melbourne Beach Florida. She wasn’t a Black Friday shopper either. We decided to try it, except we started at 9am instead at 4am when the sales start. We arrived at Target and after a long search for a parking place, we found one without harming other drivers. We went in the store and looked around while standing at the front of the store. My sister and niece came up to us, yeah they are the 4am shoppers. We had no idea what we were shopping for. My mom looked at me and said “Do you want to do this?” I stated” No. Let’s go have breakfast!” We left and had breakfast. That is my one attempt at Black Friday Shopping.

So what do I do on Black Friday? I watch old movies! Movies like:
It’s a Wonderful life with Jimmy Stewart and Donna Reed. Trailer here .
Christmas in Connecticut with Barbara Stanwyck Click here.
The Bishop’s Wife with Cary Grant, David Niven and Loretta Young. This is a really cool trailer. Watch it!
Remember the Night (1940)- Fred McMurray and Barbara Stanwyck take you back in time where a thief and a district attorney, show that love and family at Christmas can turn the world around. This movie airs on December the 9th at 6:15pm.
Miracle on 34th Street (1947) is a very uplifting movie. I have heard that the 1994 remake is also a must to get in the Christmas spirit.
The Homecoming, A Christmas Story – The pilot for the Waltons series. Patricia Neal, Richard Thomas and the rest of this amazing cast. Click here.
By the time I eat Thanksgiving leftovers and watch these movies, I am ready to decorate our tree. I have to! Tomorrow is our Family’s Annual Christmas Cookie Party!
What puts you in the Christmas Spirit? A movie, a party, shopping? What is your magic inspiration? What is your Favorite Christmas Movie? Please share!
Let us pray…
Dear Father,
You created us to enjoy the life and blessings that you have given us. Sometimes the world is too dark and dreary but there are things, activities, people, or memories that allow us to feel the joy in life. Thank you. Please give an extra burst of joy and light heartedness in the hearts of the readers during this Christmas season. Please hold tight your children who are suffering from sad memories, missing loved ones, or illness or unhappy life changes. We praise you God. Amen!
