Your Home Sweet Home

After my Mother passed away in 2018, I was struck by the fact that the beautiful home that she designed, oversaw the construction and decorated was different. She was constantly having guests over for a meal or event in addition to making out of town visitors feeling welcome and taken care of. Her home was…

A home is described as a place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household. i.e. location, place, building, house, apartment or an abode in which a person feels like they belong there.

Quite often what makes a location, a home, are the people, compassion/love, and traditions established in that place.

My Mom’s Home

After my Mother passed away in 2018, I was struck by the fact that the beautiful home that she designed, oversaw the construction and decorated was different. She was constantly having guests over for a meal or event in addition to making out of town visitors feeling welcome and taken care of. Her home was different now. To the eye it was the same but the feel of the home was different, My Mom and her personality was missing. Her love was gone or just internal now.

How do you make the place that you live a home? A home for you, a spouse, children, parents and anyone that lives, drops by or visits from out of town. A home that’s shares your personality, your heart, your Love.

Think back to your home as a child. How did it feel?

I pray that you are remembering feeling warm, loved, protected, and in a place that you belonged. That you were loved. Having a safe home is vital for children and teenagers but also to us adults.

Your Home Now

Look at your home now to ensure that you and others feel those positive emotions and feelings in your current home. Then examine your current home to ensure that it doesn’t create negative emotions or conditions, which impacts the physical, mental or spiritual aspects of you , your family or visitors.

You can decorate a place to fit with the style that you enjoy. You can arrange your furniture, pick out color schemes, decide on the functions of each room, etc and make it yours. But today…

Lets look at ways to make the feel, comfort and welcome factors of your home the way you want them to be.

Look at each room. How does it make you feel? It isn’t just with your eyes, use all senses. Is it the way you want it? And don’t the home is home because of all the time consuming things you do to make it nurturing, comforting and loving.

Have you visited someone else’s home and had positive emotions from a room. What was it?

How did your childhood home make you feel? Can you describe it?

How did your childhood home make you feel? Can you describe it?

I believe it isn’t the expensive furniture, the big house, or the lavish events that makes a home a home. It’s the love and peace, the safety and nurturing, the laughter and the hugs. Maybe to put it in a nutshell, the memories and the love.

Let’s leave our conversation today recognizing the time and energy it took, for someone to make your home a home. A home of love, memories and laughter!

May God bless those who gave so much to make us who we are! Amen
