Six months ago today Hurricane Helene hit our area, the western NC mountains. It brings mixed emotions and memories.
I choose to focus on the helpers today! The people who helped family and strangers. Help folks regardless of social status, financial situations (it didn’t matter the size of your bank account, you couldn’t get to it anyway), political party, Christian, Jewish, Hindu, Muslim or not. We were all here for each other.
This 6 month anniversary of that day is the perfect day to remember those who have helped you, prayed for you, inspired you, corrected you, aided you in becoming you! Not just WNC, not just for this recovery but helpers who helped you over your lifetime!
I pray to uplift the name of all in my life. No time period because to be honest all helpers, even deceased, made a difference in my life during the six months and lifetime.
I am sitting in my office, thinking about this day that is to recognize those that made a difference. Let’s recognize those who made a difference.
Who are the folks that helped you on your journey?

My lists have grown by leaps and bounds after the last month. We, in Western North Carolina were devastated by Hurricane Helene. Over a hundred and twenty plus people died in WNC. Hundreds of homes were washed away. 2,000 mudslides often taken building with them. 1500+ buildings have been destroyed or damaged. Cars have been totaled, or flooded. No One in WNC went without being impacted by this storm. The storm that snuck into the mountains and stayed awhile causing destruction in her path. Of course, she visited after the day before a heavily saturated rain feel across these mountains.

I have not signed on this blog for a while, I wasn’t ready to talk about what we felt and currently are still facing. I may share what we went through at another time but today is the day to recognize the people who made a difference. I am remembering all who made a difference! This year I am saluting those, still with us on earth also. And the impact they made coming to WNC and helping us will never be forgotten. I salute the people of WNC too. Those who went out to help others even when we were without power, without water, without cell service, without food for the next day. Many volunteers helped even while living in tents because their home now was a tent.
The people that helped neighbors from near and far, have made a huge difference in our neighborhood, our lives and in our hearts.
There is no way to say thank you to the people, the agencies, the groups, the churches, the families who were helpers in WNC, during Helen’s aftermath.
All I can say, Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You, your families and all who helped in anyway that you could. You are lifted in our prayers of Gratitude, every day!!You who helped even while living in tents because their homes were inhabitable or gone.

Let us pray:
Almighty God, We are thankful without measure for all of the “Angels on Earth” that participated in the help that WNC and her people received. Please bless them and their families, the companies that worked to cover the helpers even when the business was harmed. Thank you for the linemen, the water workers, the contributors, the feet on the ground taking human life necessities and smiling faces to those in need. Thank you for the government workers, who left your home to come and aid us in anyway you could. Thank you all who helped in anyway you could. God, blessed them all and those in WNC because many , many are still struggling. Amen
